I wasn't entirely surprised to see a string of stories recently about New York merchants beginning to accept Euros as payment in lieu of US dollars. Just as the then 'international standard' of shekels, florins, talons, doubloons, and pieces-of-eight gave way to successor currencies when the empires issuing them began to wane, these merchants must have realized that the bloat of the M3 (US Money supply for those international readers) is causing their inventory to devalue and ongoing profits to depreciate as the dollar continues to falter.
